Alto Paraguay

The department of Alto Paraguay is one of the giants of Chaco, bordering Bolivia and Brazil. Its capital is Fuerte Olimpo. The lands are located under the influence of the Paraguay River and holds one of the most important ecological reserves in the world, with a flood plain and forests of quebracho wood, palo santo and palm trees. The region that is located near Bolivia is dry and stony. Its population density is very low, only 0.20 inhabitants per km2.
