The Capital City of the country, Asuncion, is located in this Department and is the center of all political, economic and cultural development in Paraguay. It has the highest population density in the country. Locations as Lambaré, Fernando de la Mora, Luque, San Lorenzo and Mariano Roque Alonso, near the Capital City, are bedroom communities, which lives are closely linked to the Capital. Important historical sites from the colonial years are located in this area.
