Paraguay

The Republic of Paraguay is located in the heart of South America. It is a landlocked country surrounded by Bolivia, Brazil and Argentina. Its territory covers an area of 406,752 km2. It counts with a total population of 6,119,642 inhabitants.

The country is divided into 2 regions: the Eastern Region and the Western Region (also called Chaco). The average Summer temperature is between 25ºC and 35ºC while the average Winter temperature is between 10ºC and 20ºC.

Eastern Region

It occupies 39% of the country territory. The climate is mild and pleasant, it is covered by forests of exuberant flora and many woods species used for different industries.

Two of the most important water resources are located in this region.

The best soils for cultivation of this region are in: Alto Paraná, Itapúa, Canindeyú, Amambay, San Pedro and Caaguazú.

Arid and unproductive lands are very scarce in this region, just a little more than 2% of it.

Western Region-Chaco

It represents the 61% of the territory. The population density is 0.4 inhabitants per km.
This Region can be divided into three areas:
1) flat and wooded, not flooded, and hardwoods are found in its forest, such as quebracho and palo santo, as well as palm trees;
2) a dry plain, sand dunes and open lands with some wetlands and vegetation of spiny bushes and cactus
3) flooded in rainy seasons and covered by large swamps, palm trees and a profusion of weeds and grasses.
